Progress so far . . .
So I find myself having somehow navigated my first few months in anaesthetics, and thus far relatively unscathed.
I find that I don’t miss ward rounds at all- shocker! I do miss occasionally starting at 9am unfortunately getting up well before 6am has now become the norm. Coffee helps. I also miss being able to cannulate unsupervised!
I’ve learned a lot. I’ve found it’s taken a combination of the novice course and time in theatre for stuff to sink in. Like how long atracurium takes to act – seeing “3 minutes” written on a slide didn’t sink in until a few days ago, when I had to bag the patient for the e-n-t-i-r-e time. The small muscles in my hand have just recovered, won’t forget that in a hurry.
I’ve intubated ten tracheas to one oesophagus.
I finally seem to have re-learned how to cannulate.
I’ve only been run over by one bed.
And best of all – my Crocs haven’t been stolen yet!
