Inner monologue of an ODP
Here it is, straight from the horse’s mouth (nothing personal) my ODP’s account of my first few days in anaesthesia . . .
‘When we’re busy preparing a case and you very kindly offer to help and we say “no…” it’s nothing personal, it is our job to pander to the needs of the consultant, not yours, particularly on your first day.
And later when you are stood around feeling a bit useless and like no matter where you stand you’re in the bloody way, let me tell you, you are.
Subtle. Good to know my situational awareness was right on the money at least!
